The Sage and Downtown Limerick

I had the best afternoon! Ita Kavinaugh, my mentor and former director for the IT major here at LIT, took me out for lunch and showed me around town.

First, we ate at this really nice restaurant called The Sage. It’s located at 68 Catherine St. and has the calmest modern interior design. All of the dinnerware is pure white with no frills or thrills: nice and simple.

I ordered the “Brie and Sundried tomato tartlets with mixed leaves and red pepper dressing” and for dessert I had almond cake. The brie was great, but I’m not keen on pairing it with the red pepper dressing. The dressing was a little on the sweet side. Although, the almond cake was absolutely amazing! It came with a side of unsweetened whipped cream.

After eating, we went into a cooking supply store across from the restaurant. Ita offered to pay for a set of salt and pepper shakers for me since I didn’t have cash. The salt and pepper shakers are so cute; they look like eggs. I’d like to go back to the store to buy my mom a blue mug. She loves blue detailed ceramics. Limerick City is so beautiful! It’s like a very mini, clean NYC.

During dinner Ita had found a flyer for Limerick Culture Night. A free walking tour of the cities medieval walls will be given tomorrow at 5pm which I plan to attend. It sets out the visitor’s center at King John’s Castle and will show the original walls that used to be part of the castle surrounding the city.

On Saturday I’m going to something called the “Milk Market.” It’s basically an open air market every Saturday morning that’s been around for 40 years. Vendors sell fresh fruit and vegetables, and over two dozen types of cheeses. Ita told me that people from the school buy all their fruit and vegetables at the market. And she also said that you can buy a wedge of brie cheese for 2euro!

The Sun!

After a morning of rainy weather I was amazed when I stepped outside after orientation to find a sunny sky and warm(er) temperature. I found it the perfect opportunity to take several good pictures of the LIT campus surrounding the main building.

Killarney National Park

I visited the Killarney National Park yesterday with Jennifer. We walked around the Muchross house and gardens, home to a 19th century mansion previously owned by senator Arthur Vincent. After walking around the mansion, we headed to a trail that took us on a tour through the mountains surrounding the estate. We hiked for about an hour an a half before returning to the car and heading home.
